Fall is in the air!

This week we will begin talking about fall and will have our fall celebration. Last week we attended our field trip to the Fort Stewart Fire Department and had a great time. I was very impressed with how well our boys and girls were able to answer all of the fire safety questions asked by the firefighters. I would like to thank all of the parents who were able to attend and help out with the children. I would also like to thank Mrs. Burns and Ms. White for taking photographs for me. I will be posting them soon so keep checking back.

Our school WinterFest will be held on December 3rd. Each class will be making a special basket for the Silent Basket Auction. Our class has chosen to make a "RUB-A-DUB DUB" basket, which is a child's bath time basket. In order to make our basket a success, we are asking for donations of children's bath time items to fill the basket. Some suggested items are bath soaps, shampoos, bubble bath, bath toys, a child's bath robe, towel, etc. All donations will be greatly appreciated!
Have a wonderful week!

Pumpkins, Pumpkins

Next week we will be working and experimenting with pumpkins. Some of the activities we have planned are to measure the circumference of a pumpkin, weigh a pumpkin, explore the inside of a pumpkin, make roasted pumpkin seeds, and to paint pumpkins. We already have two pumpkins in our science center which were donated by Camden. I would like to have a variety of the various types of the smaller mini pumpkins for the children to use for sorting and weighing. If you would like to donate a small pumpkin to the class, we would greatly appreciate it.
On Tuesday we will visit the Fort Stewart Fire Department and the children are very excited. If you would like to meet us there, we would love for you to join us. It will be at the new Fire Department on Fort Stewart.

Fire Safety

This week we will begin a unit on fire safety to teach the children the importance of knowing how to dial 911 and give their address in the event of an emergency, what a fire fighter is and what his/her role is in the community, how to make an evacuation plan with their family, and to be aware of general fire safety rules.
On October 25th we will be going on our first field trip to the Fort Stewart Fire Department. This will be a wonderful opportunity for your child to meet real fire fighters and to learn more about what their job is, the tools they use for their job, and where they work.  If you haven't returned your child's field trip permission slip, please be sure to do so as soon as possible. Children must have a permission slip in order to attend. Parents are welcome to follow our bus or to meet us there!
Have a wonderful week!

Down on the Farm

This week we will begin a unit on farm animals. We will learn the names of the animals that live on a farm, food that we get from the animals that live there, and the types of food that can be grown on a farm. We will be making our own butter on Friday and will learn a new song called "Butter Making Boogie". If you have any old overalls, boots, bandanas, or straw hats at home that you no longer have use for and would like to donate to our class dramatic play center, we would greatly appreciate it.

We had so much fun last week making applesauce and tasting different types of apples. We appreciate all of the apple donations we received, it made all of our apple activities possible.

Apple Time

We have been having a lot of fun learning about apples and will continue our apple theme this week. Last week we tasted Granny Smith, Red Delicious, and Golden Delicious apples and graphed our favorite, we made AB and ABC patterns with apples, and learned about the life of John Chapman, or as we call him, Johnny Appleseed.
This week we will be reading several new apple stories, weighing objects to see which things weigh more or less than an apple, using apples to make apple prints, and learning about the life cycle of an apple.
Please refer to the October calendar for important events going on this month. Also, if you haven't returned your I Care form, we would greatly appreciate it if you could send it in no later than the end of the week.
Have a great week and thank you to everyone for sending in apples....we had plenty for all of our class experiments.
