Last week was a very busy week for us and a week of a lot of "firsts" for our class. On Monday, we visited the Media Center with Mrs. Smith and learned how to find books on the shelves and handle them properly. After September 6th, we will begin checking out books each Monday when we visit the Media Center. On Wednesday, we went to the Computer Lab and met Mrs. Clem, the Computer Lab teacher. We will visit the Computer Lab each week to learn basic computer skills and to reinforce skills learned in the classroom.
In the classroom, we were introduced to "Smarty Arty", the Smartboard. We were able to do the calendar activities and learn an alphabet, days of the week, months of the year, and shapes song using the smartboard. All of the children became "Alphabet Hunters" as they searched for and circled given letters on the smartboard. We also celebrated the birthdays of two of our fellow classmates, Landon and Adyn. Happy Birthday boys!
This week, we will begin an "All About Me" theme. Mrs. Marengo and I would like for each child to bring one 4x6 family photo to share with the class and to place on our family bulletin board. It's always fun to learn about everyone's family through pictures and the children's stories! We will continue to work on our class routines and fine motor skills such as cutting with scissors and working with writing utensils. Each of the centers in the classroom are now open during center time, so please encourage your child to visit each throughout the week.

Shapes, Shapes, Shapes!
This week we will continue to work on colors, but will also begin a new theme on shapes. We have some really fun activities planned and can't wait to get started! We will explore squares using big and little Cheez-its as we learn how to sort by one attribute (size). We will also practice AB patterning using big and little Cheez-its and will of course end our lesson with a nice Cheez-it snack! Yummy! When we learn about triangles we will read the story Where the Wild Things Are and will make our own King Max crowns using triangles. Since we love using food, we will also build our own shapes using mini-marshmallows and toothpicks. Last week we tasted pickles and lemons on green and yellow day and made a graph depicting how many liked or disliked them. It was funny that some of the children who voted that they disliked them also asked for seconds!
This week we will visit the Computer Lab and Media Center for the first time. We will also be opening the art and home living center for the children to work in. We have been unwrapping centers slowly to give the children time to learn the rules and uses for the materials in each. The children have been waiting patiently and are looking forward to working in these areas!
Please be sure to mark your calendar for Open House on Tuesday, August 23rd at 6:00 p.m. We hope that you are able to visit our room to see some of your child's work displayed in the classroom. Let your child be your tour guide to show you around the classroom and share what they have done. They have been hard at work to make the room their own!
Next week we will be working on an "All About Me" theme and would like for each child to bring a 4x6 family photo to share with their classmates and display on our class bulletin board. You can send a photo with your child at any time during the week. Due to limited space, please send only one photo.
In closing, we would like to thank all of you for your support and look forward to seeing you on Tuesday!

A Week of Colors!
Last week was our first official full week of school and we are very proud of the children in our class. It has been a big adjustment for them and they have really done well in learning our class rules and routines. Last Thursday and Friday we unwrapped two of our centers, the block and science center, and allowed the children to visit each. We began with a lesson on the materials of each and how they are to be used. We then had some exploration time and finally a lesson on clean-up. The children were so excited!
This week we will focus on a color a day to help reinforce color identification. We thought it would be fun to choose a specific color each day and to have the teachers and children dress in that color. The days and colors are listed on the class calendar and will also be posted at the end of this blog post for reference. What a colorful bunch we will be!
We have collected most of the paperwork that was sent home during open house and the first few days of school. If you still have papers to be returned, please send them in as soon as possible. We are still missing some of the internet and handbook permission forms. This form is extremely important because it will allow your child to participate in the computer lab activities as well as having their picture posted in our class blog. I take several pictures throughout the week of the children involved in classroom activities and special events. I would love to be able to post pictures of your child so you can enjoy seeing what he/she is learning in school.
In closing, please remember to send your child to school each day with his/her apple tag, book bag, daily folder, and towels for rest time. Below is a list of colors and the day it should be worn.
Monday-Red
Tuesday- Orange
Wednesday- Yellow
Thursday- Green
Friday- Blue
Have a wonderful week!

Welcome to Room B-314!
Welcome to our class blog. We hope that you enjoy following our class as they experience Pre-K for the first time and learn and grow throughout the school year. We had a great start last Thursday and Friday and are looking forward to an exciting year together. During the first two days of school we learned some of our morning routines, class rules, and our way around the classroom and school. We will continue to learn more about what to expect during a day in Pre-K and about one another. During large group on Friday, we did a science experiment and made blue flubber. The kids were amazed as they watched liquid ingredients turn into a rubbery mass. When we finished, everyone was able to hold and play with the flubber. It was fun to listen to the children describe how it felt and watch their expressions as they held it. At the end of the day each child took home their own flubber to play with...I hope you checked their book bag!
This week we will continue on our journey of getting to know one another and learning more about our school. We will also begin working with scissors, glue, and various types of writing utensils as we explore a unit on colors. The children will learn how to hold scissors with the correct grip and practice cutting skills using play dough. We will also learn how to use glue and writing utensils correctly.
Please check back next week for pictures of our first two days and snapshots of our week!
